How Many Towels Per Hotel Room? Par Levels Explained

Most hotels hold three sets of towels for every room: one in the room, one at the laundry and one clean on the shelf, known as three par. That is a common rule of thumb, not a standard Velocity Wear sets. A standard double usually takes two bath towels or bath sheets, two hand towels and two face towels per set, so six of each at three par.

What is a towel par level?

A par level is the number of complete towel sets you keep in circulation for each room. One par makes up every room once; three par covers the set in use, the set being washed and the set waiting to go out. A count that falls below par is usually the first sign of losses.

Treat three as a starting point to adjust. An off-site laundry that takes a day or more to return towels leaves nothing to cover the gap at three par, which is why some operators hold a fourth set, while a quick on-site laundry may run on three. Measure your turnaround before fixing the figure.

How many towels does each room type need?

Count towels per guest, multiply by guests per room, then by par. The table does that for common room types at three par, using the sizes in our wholesale towel range; swap bath towels for bath sheets wherever you want the larger wrap.

Our hand towel is 45 × 75 cm and the face towel 40 × 60 cm, a small guest towel rather than a square washcloth. Bath mats and robes count toward par too, but they are not in our towel range, so plan them separately. Every size is listed in the towel sizes chart.

How do you turn par levels into an order quantity?

Multiply rooms by towels per set by par, size by size, then add a reserve for loss and damage. A 40-room hotel of doubles at three par needs 240 bath sheets or bath towels, 240 hand towels and 240 face towels: 720 before the reserve, which you can size from your own loss records after a few months.

An order of 720 sits in the 200–999 band at up to 20% off; 50–199 pieces pay the base wholesale rate, and from 1,000 the ceiling is up to 35% off. Branded hand towels are £6.50 and bath towels £8 per piece, FOB with the logo included; bath sheets and face towels are quoted. The minimum is 50 pieces per design, and even a 10-room guest house of doubles needs 60 of each size at three par, clearing it on every line.

Should par change with the season or occupancy?

Set par for your busiest weeks, because a shortfall on a full Saturday cannot be made up by a quiet Tuesday. A reuse scheme, where staying guests hang up towels they are happy to keep, cuts laundry volume but not the sets needed for checkouts. Count poolside bath sheets on their own line, since pool demand follows the weather rather than the room count.

Why should par stock match across the property?

Every set has to fit every room, so par stock should be one colour, one weight and one border throughout; mixed stock means housekeeping sorts towels instead of making up rooms.
