Custom towels with a logo are branded in three ways at Velocity Wear: an embroidered logo on the pile or border, a dobby or satin border woven into the towel, and woven labels or loop tabs, often combined. What are the ways to put a logo on a towel?
There are three, and they combine well. Each is built into the towel or stitched through it, which is why all three survive the washing a towel in business use goes through. Sizes, colours and prices are on our custom towel range.
- Embroidered logo: artwork digitised into a stitch file and sewn onto the pile or border at a high stitch count.
- Dobby or satin border: a flat band woven into each end, branding through texture rather than a mark.
- Woven label or loop tab: a small woven tag with your name or logo, sewn in flat or folded into a hanging loop.

Should the embroidered logo go on the pile or the border?
Put it on the border for a crisp, compact logo, and on the pile for a larger mark that reads from across a room.
The flat border keeps stitches on its surface and fine edges sharp. On looped pile, a logo needs a high stitch count to hold the thread above the loops, and very thin lines are best thickened first. When is a woven border enough on its own?
When the towel should look specified rather than advertised. A white towel with a dobby border and a woven hotel label is the quietest branding there is, and it suits guest rooms where a large logo would look like merchandise.
A dobby border is a textured band woven by the loom's dobby mechanism, which lifts warp threads in a set pattern; a satin border uses long yarn floats for a smooth sheen. Both give embroidery its best base if you add a logo, and dobby border towels compares them.
What are woven labels and loop tabs for?
A woven label names the towel without touching its face. Because it is woven rather than stitched into pile, it reproduces small lettering more cleanly, and it is how retail and private-label towels usually carry a brand.

Combinations are normal: a spa might stitch a tonal logo on a satin border and add a loop tab.
