What Wholesale Towels Actually Cost: Prices, Tiers and the Number That Matters

Towel suppliers almost universally hide pricing behind a quote form, which makes budgeting impossible and comparison shopping worse. So here are our actual per-piece prices, what moves them, and — more usefully — the calculation you should be doing instead of comparing unit prices.
The prices
Per piece, including branding, at the 50-piece minimum:
- **Gym towel, 30 × 80 cm, 450 GSM — £4.50**
- **Hand and salon towel, 45 × 75 cm, 500 GSM — £6.50**
- **Bath towel, 70 × 140 cm, 550 GSM — £8.00**
- **Face towel, 40 × 60 cm, 450 GSM — quoted**
- **Bath sheet, 90 × 180 cm, 650 GSM — quoted**
The last two are quoted rather than published because they are made to your GSM, colour and branding rather than run to a standard spec. We would rather say that than put a placeholder number next to them.
Branding is in the price. That is not universal — plenty of quotes come back with a per-piece embroidery charge and a one-off digitising fee bolted on afterwards, so check what you are comparing.
Volume tiers
- 1**50–199 pieces** — base wholesale pricing, as above.
- 2**200–999 pieces** — up to 20% off.
- 3**1,000+ pieces** — up to 35% off.
The jump from the first tier to the second is the one worth planning around. Most commercial sites need three sets of towels in rotation anyway — one in use, one in the wash, one clean — so the quantity that gets you into the 200+ tier is usually the quantity you actually needed.
What moves the price
Roughly in order of impact:
- **Size and GSM.** These are the same lever — you are buying cotton by weight. A 650 GSM bath sheet contains roughly seven times the cotton of a 450 GSM gym towel.
- **Colour.** Stock colours and white are the baseline. A dyed-to-match brand colour needs a lab dip approval and carries its own minimum, so it is a volume decision rather than a 50-piece one.
- **Branding complexity.** A single-colour logo on the dobby band is included. Large multi-colour embroidery, woven labels and custom dobby borders each add.
- **Packaging.** Bulk-packed is baseline; individual belly bands, sleeves and boxed sets add per piece and matter if the towel is being sold or gifted rather than used in-house.
- **Freight.** Quoted separately, and genuinely significant on towels, which are dense and heavy. Always ask for it as a line item rather than folded into a unit price.
The calculation that actually matters
Comparing unit prices between suppliers tells you very little, because the towels are not the same product. What you care about on a commercial site is cost per wash cycle: the purchase price divided by the number of cycles the towel survives before it is too thin, too grey or too unabsorbent to put in front of a customer.
Nobody can hand you that second number honestly — it depends on your wash temperature, your chemistry, your dryer and how hard your site is on textiles. What you can do is measure it once. Date a batch, log when you retire it, and you have a real figure for your own site that no supplier’s marketing can argue with.
Run it and the arithmetic often inverts the obvious answer. A towel that costs 30% more and lasts twice as long is cheaper, and it also fails less often in front of a customer, which does not show up in the unit price at all.
What decides that lifespan is not GSM — it is fibre, twist and weave, which is covered in towel cotton and weave explained.
Budgeting a real order
A worked example, using the published prices above. A boutique gym needing 300 gym towels in rotation: 300 × £4.50 is £1,350 at base pricing, less up to 20% in the 200+ tier, so roughly £1,080 before freight. Production is 10–15 working days from artwork approval.
A 40-room hotel needing two bath towels and two hand towels per room, times three sets in rotation, is 240 bath and 240 hand: roughly £1,920 and £1,560 at base, again inside the 200+ tier on each line.

A note on minimums
Towels carry a 50-piece minimum per design, not the 20 that applies to our apparel. Towels are woven rather than cut and sewn, and the loom setup for a custom dobby border and colourway is a fixed cost that 20 pieces cannot absorb.
