50-piece minimum · Mixed sizes · We never share your details

A hotel room set usually runs to a bath towel, a hand towel and a face cloth, with a bath sheet added in higher categories and a separate pool or spa towel where those facilities exist. The split is never even: hand towels and face cloths turn over faster than bath towels. Mixed sizes can sit inside one order of fifty provided the design is identical across them.

Which towel sizes belong in a hotel room set?

Start from what housekeeping actually places. The bath towel is the anchor and the one guests judge the property on. The hand towel sits by the basin and is used far more often than its size suggests. The face cloth is small, cheap and vanishes at a rate that surprises first-time buyers. A bath sheet is a category signal more than a functional necessity, which is why it appears in suites and not in standard rooms.

Pool and spa towels are a separate programme with separate logic. They are usually a different weight, often a different colour so they do not migrate into rooms, and they are handed out rather than placed. Treating them as part of the room order is a common mistake that ends with pool towels in bathrooms and nobody able to tell which is which.

Room sets and pool stock are two programmes, not one.

How many of each format per room?

Multiply, then multiply again. Take the per-room placement, multiply by occupancy where rooms are double, then multiply by the number of rotation sets you hold. Three sets is a common working standard: one in the room, one in the laundry, one on the shelf. A forty-room property placing two bath towels per room is therefore looking at well over two hundred bath towels before it has thought about hand towels.

That number puts most properties straight into the upper quantity bands, which is worth knowing before you split the order for budget reasons. Face cloths are the exception in the other direction: they are small enough that buyers under-order them, then find themselves topping up within months. If any format deserves a generous margin, it is that one. The wholesale towels page lists the formats we produce.

Does the fifty-piece minimum apply to every format?

The floor counts designs, not formats. If your bath towel, hand towel and face cloth all carry the same branding in the same colour, they are one design and they share a single fifty-piece minimum between them. If the pool towel is a different colour with a different mark, that is a second design and it needs its own fifty.

This is worth planning around deliberately. Properties that want a distinct pool towel sometimes achieve it with the same artwork on a different base colour, which may still require separate setup. Asking that question at quote stage rather than after ordering is the difference between one run and two.

How do you avoid ending up with dead stock?

Dead towel stock is rarer than dead garment stock, because towels do not go out of size or fashion. The realistic risk is ordering a format you thought you would use and do not, usually a bath sheet bought for rooms that turned out not to need one. Order the formats you are certain about at full depth and the uncertain one at minimum depth, then correct on the repeat once you have twelve months of consumption behind you.

Guest-facing linen has its own considerations, covered in personalised bath towels for hotels and B&Bs, and the format and weight pairings are in our wholesale towels guide.

Quick Answers

Common questions about towels — answered.

Three is the common working standard: one in the room, one in the laundry and one on the shelf. Two leaves no slack when a laundry cycle slips or a set is damaged.

Yes, provided they carry identical branding in the same colour. The fifty-piece floor counts designs, so mixed formats of one design combine into a single run.

Most properties deliberately make them different, usually by colour, so that pool stock does not drift into bathrooms and room stock does not end up by the water.

Face cloths. They are small, inexpensive and disappear far faster than any other format, so a generous margin on them costs very little and saves an early top-up.
