Personalised Gym Towels: Branding, Sizes and Laundry for Gyms
By The Velocity Wear Team
Many gyms now ask members to wipe down equipment and use a towel on benches. Some provide towels. Some sell them. Some give branded towels as a welcome perk. Whichever you do, a good gym towel needs to be absorbent, quick to dry, tough enough for daily hot washes, and ideally, carrying your name.
The right size
Our gym towel is 30 × 80 cm at 450 GSM, which is the size people actually use on the gym floor: long enough to cover a bench, narrow enough to drape over a shoulder. For gyms with showers, pair it with our 70 × 140 cm bath towel.
Why 450 GSM suits gyms
Heavier towels feel luxurious but take longer to dry and cost more to launder. A mid-weight towel absorbs sweat well, dries quickly between uses and keeps laundry bills sensible. That balance is what a gym needs.
Colours that work
Dark colours like black, charcoal and navy hide sweat marks and look sleek. Some gyms colour-code: one colour for the gym floor, another for studio classes, white for spa or changing areas. It makes laundry sorting easier too.
Branding
An embroidered logo near the end of the towel is visible when it's draped over a bench or shoulder, which means it's in every member's gym selfie. Keep the logo bold and simple so it stays crisp on terry. White or a brand-colour thread on a dark towel works well.
Towel service, welcome perk or merch?
- Towel service: provide towels at the desk and launder them. Members love it; plan for loss and laundry costs.
- Welcome perk: give annual or premium members their own branded towel.
- Merch: sell towels at reception alongside tees and hoodies.
Laundry and hygiene
Gym towels should be washed after every use. Wash hot enough to clean effectively, avoid fabric softener, which reduces absorbency, and dry thoroughly before storing to prevent odours. Commercial laundries can advise on programmes for sports towels.
How many towels you need
For a towel service, estimate peak daily visits, multiply by one or two towels per visit, then add enough for a full laundry cycle. Most gyms need at least two to three times their peak daily usage in stock.
Build a merch bundle
Gym towels sell well alongside branded tees and hoodies. See custom gym hoodies.
Quick checklist before you order
- Gym floor towels, shower towels, or both?
- Dark colours to hide sweat?
- Service, perk or merch?

- Laundry programme agreed?
PT studios and small group training
Personal training studios often have fewer clients but higher expectations. A fresh branded towel for every session is a small touch that justifies premium pricing. For small studios, keep a stack by the entrance and a laundry basket by the exit so clients can help keep things tidy.
Hotel and corporate gyms
Hotel gyms and office fitness suites often provide towels on open shelves. A distinct colour and gym-specific branding stop towels drifting to guest rooms or desks. Assign restocking to a specific role so shelves never run empty.
Members who train outdoors
Boot camps and outdoor fitness groups use towels for mats and wiping down after sessions in the rain. Branded towels sold to members are practical and popular. Darker colours are best for muddy park sessions.
Ordering
The gym size starts from £4.50 including branding, with a minimum of 50 per design. Production takes 10 to 15 working days from artwork approval. See wholesale towels and our gym towel GSM and size guide.
