Custom Gym Hoodies: Merch Your Members Actually Wear

Gym hoodies get searched thousands of times a month in the UK. Most of those people are shopping for big fitness brands. But members of an independent gym, a boxing club or a CrossFit box will happily wear their own gym's hoodie instead, if it's good enough to compete. That's the whole trick.
Why independent gyms should bother
Every member wearing your hoodie at the school gate or on the train is a small advert with a face attached. It builds that sense of belonging that keeps people renewing. And it's a margin line that doesn't depend on selling another membership.
Make it look like fashion, not uniform
- Go oversized or relaxed. The classic boxy lifting fit is what people want to be seen in.
- Pick darker, muted colours. Black, charcoal, washed grey, forest green and stone all sell.
- Keep the logo small on the front. A left chest stitch or a small puff print looks premium.
- Put the statement on the back. Your gym name, a location, a year founded or a short motto.
- Avoid shouting the membership price or a phone number. Nobody wants to wear a flyer.
Fabric that survives training
Gym hoodies get worn over sweaty kit and washed constantly. A mid to heavy weight, 330 GSM and up, keeps its shape and doesn't go thin after a month. Brushed fleece inside is warmer for the walk home. French terry is lighter and breathes better if people wear it during warm-ups.
Printing on the front of a hoodie that gets rubbed by barbells and kettlebells needs to be durable. Embroidery and screen print both hold up well. Avoid huge heavy prints across the chest if members do a lot of overhead work, as they can feel stiff.
Don't over-order your first drop
You don't need 200 hoodies to launch. Our minimum is 20 per design, sizes mixed. A good first run for a small gym is 20 to 50 pieces in one colour. Take pre-orders for a week, see what sizes people actually want, then place the order. Pre-orders also mean members have paid before you've spent anything.
Bundle it
Hoodies sell well alongside a matching tee and a branded gym towel. Towels have a 50-piece minimum and our gym size is 30 by 80 cm, the size people actually carry around the floor. Coaches as the best advert
Members copy coaches. If every coach wears the gym hoodie on the floor, in class videos and on social media, members want one. Give coaches theirs first, a couple of weeks before merch goes on sale, and ask them to wear it during the pre-order window.
Seasonal restocks
Hoodie demand in UK gyms climbs from October and again in January, when new members join. Plan a restock for each, using what sold last time to decide sizes.
Pricing it for members
Work out your landed cost per hoodie, then look at what members pay for comparable hoodies from sportswear brands. Independent gym merch usually sells comfortably when it sits a bit below those brands and looks just as good. Run your quantities on the price calculator to see where the breaks are.
