Custom Gym Towels for Fitness Studios and Boutique Gyms
By The Velocity Wear Team
Custom gym towels get about four hundred US searches a month, but boutique fitness studios, cycling studios, CrossFit boxes and hotel gyms order them constantly. A fresh branded towel handed to each member is a small luxury that justifies premium membership pricing.
Size
Our gym towel is about 12 × 31 in (30 × 80 cm) at 450 GSM: long enough to cover a bench, slim enough for a shoulder or bike handlebars. Add bath towels, about 28 × 55 in, for showers.
Why 450 GSM
Mid-weight towels absorb sweat well and dry faster than plush towels, which keeps laundry time and costs manageable.
Colors
Black, charcoal and navy hide sweat and look sleek. Some studios color-code: black for the floor, white for showers.
Branding
An embroidered logo near the end of the towel shows when it's draped, which means it's in members' post-workout photos. Keep it bold and simple.
Towel service economics
Count peak daily check-ins, multiply by towels per visit, then hold two to three times that. Factor in laundry cost and loss rate. Many studios build towel service into premium tiers.
Member perks and merch
Give branded towels to new annual members, or sell them at the desk with tees and water bottles. See heavyweight hoodies for streetwear-style gym merch.
Hygiene and laundry
Wash after every use, no fabric softener, dry fully. Never let damp towels sit overnight in a bin; odors set in fast.
Mistakes to avoid
- 1Plush heavy towels that take forever to dry.
- 2White towels on a sweaty gym floor.
- 3No par stock for laundry days.
- 4Fabric softener reducing absorbency.
Quick checklist before you order
- Gym size for the floor, bath size for showers?
- Dark colors?
- Bold embroidered logo?
- Two to three times peak daily use?
- Laundry plan?
Cycling, HIIT and hot studios
Indoor cycling and HIIT classes produce heavy sweat, and many studios hand every rider a towel at check-in. Gym-size towels draped over handlebars keep bikes dry. Hot studios may need more towels per client. Plan par levels based on class sizes, classes per day and laundry turnaround.
Hotel and apartment gyms
Hotel fitness centers and apartment building gyms often stock towels on open shelves. Branded towels in a distinct color stay in the gym rather than migrating to rooms or apartments. Housekeeping or maintenance staff should restock and collect used towels daily.
Corporate fitness centers
Companies with on-site gyms provide towels as an employee perk. Branded towels with a subtle company logo reinforce the wellness program. Coordinate laundry with facilities management.
Loss rates and pricing
Towels go missing from gyms, especially in open-access facilities. Track stock monthly. If losses are high, keep towels at the front desk, use a check-out system, or build replacement costs into membership pricing.
Selling towels to members
Members who train at home or outdoors sometimes buy a branded gym towel. Keep a few in retail packaging at the front desk. They make a good add-on for new memberships or class packs.
Opening a new location
For a new gym or studio, order towels well before opening so staff can test the check-in and laundry routine during soft launch.
Color coding for multi-use facilities
Facilities with pools, courts and gyms benefit from a different towel color in each area. It keeps towels where they belong and makes laundry sorting faster.
Ordering
Minimum 50 per design. Production takes 10 to 15 working days from artwork approval. See wholesale towels.
