University branded water bottles are insulated steel bottles printed with a university, students' union or society logo, made from 50 pieces per design in 10 to 15 working days after artwork approval. They suit freshers fairs, open days, sports societies and graduation gifts, can be split across finishes matching the university palette, and keep water cold for 24 hours.
Where do university bottles get used?
| Occasion | Who orders | Set-up that tends to suit |
|---|---|---|
| Freshers fair | Students' union, clubs and societies | Carry-handle cap in the union colour, with an undated design |
| Open days and offer-holder events | Admissions and marketing teams | Steel cap in a branded gift box for visiting applicants |
| Sports societies | Club captains and the athletic union | Flip-straw in the club's colour |
| Graduation and alumni gifts | Alumni and development offices | Wood finish or stainless steel, boxed |
| Staff and conference gifts | Departments and research groups | Steel cap in matte black or navy |
Each of these is a separate design if the artwork differs, because each logo or artwork counts as its own design with its own 50 pieces. A union wanting one bottle for freshers and another for the boat club is ordering two designs; a single union mark across both, with the finishes doing the separating, keeps it to one. Union shops selling bottles as merchandise should favour a design that sells beyond the first term. The range is on our custom university bottles page.
Are bottles a good freshers giveaway?
For the right table, yes, though they are not the item to hand every passing student. A steel bottle is heavier and more considered than a pen or a sticker, so it works best as a sign-up reward: join the society, get the bottle. That turns the giveaway into a membership list. For volume at a fair, a smaller item works alongside it, and keychains for universities and freshers covers that end.

How do you match a university's colours?
Start from the finish closest to the primary colour in the brand guidelines, then set the crest or wordmark in a contrasting colour, usually white on the darker finishes. Colours can be mixed within one design, so a university in navy and red can split the 50 between the two. If a department uses its own lockup (the fixed arrangement of crest and name), check first, because a different lockup is a different design. Choosing bottle colours pairs every finish with a logo colour.
Which cap suits student sport?
The flip-straw. Rowers, runners and netball players drink in short gaps, and a straw that flips up saves unscrewing a cap on a cold towpath. The carry-handle suits walking and mountaineering societies and anyone carrying a bottle between lectures, while the steel cap suits the gift end: graduation, alumni and staff. Bottles for sports teams and clubs covers team orders, and the sports clubs page covers the kit around them.
When should a university order?
Around the academic calendar. For freshers week in September, approve the proof before the end of July, because staff and union officers are hard to reach in August. Production takes 10 to 15 working days from approval, freight is added, and the boxes need to arrive before the fair is set up, not during it. For July graduations, brief in May. Universities can be invoiced in pounds, with a written quote ready for a purchase order.
What to send for a university quote
Through the enquiry form on this page, send the logo from the brand guidelines, the occasion, how many bottles in each finish, the cap, the campus delivery address and the date of the fair, open day or ceremony. Velocity Wear sends a quote with pricing, typically within a few hours on a working day. See the university bottle range and the complete buyer's guide; sixth forms may find bottles for schools closer to their needs.
