Two-tone trucker hats put one colour on the front panels and brim and a second on the mesh back and sides, and the logo only has to stand out against the front. Velocity Wear makes them from 50 hats per design at $12 a piece, embroidered, patched or printed, in 10 to 15 working days from artwork approval. Which combinations are available is confirmed in your quote.
Which parts of a trucker hat take a colour?
Three main zones, plus a few small ones. The front panels are the structured fabric at the front of the crown, backed with buckram, a stiff interlining that holds them upright under a logo. The mesh is the open netting across the back and sides. The brim, also called the bill or peak, is the stiff visor. On a classic two-tone, front and brim share one colour and the mesh takes the other.
The small zones are the top button, the snap closure, the seam stitching and the under-brim, the underside of the peak. Some colourways carry contrast stitching in the mesh colour, like the hat pictured. Custom closures and under-brims are options across the custom caps range, so a third brand colour can go there instead of on the crown.

How do you choose trucker hat colour combinations that keep the logo readable?
Start with the logo and work outwards. The logo sits on the front panel, so the contrast that matters is between the thread or patch and that panel; the mesh sits behind and beside it, setting the mood without affecting legibility. A pale logo needs a dark front, a dark logo needs a light one, and mid-tone on mid-tone loses its edges a few steps away.
Then use the mesh to repeat something. Put the logo's accent colour into the mesh and the hat looks planned, because that colour now appears twice: a white and red logo on a black front with red mesh hangs together, while the same logo with green mesh fights itself. Treat neon mesh as the accent, never the headline.
Two-tone trucker combinations by brand look
These pairings tend to work. Trucker blanks come in set colourways, so not every front comes with every mesh; the quote confirms what is available and suggests the nearest alternative.
| Brand look | Front and brim | Mesh | Logo that reads well |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic workwear | Navy | White | White or yellow flat embroidery |
| Streetwear | Black | Neon pink, turquoise or orange | White, or the mesh colour in 3D puff |
| Outdoor and heritage | Olive, khaki or brown | Cream | A leather-look patch |
| Coastal and summer | Pale blue | White | Navy embroidery or a woven patch |
| Sports club | The club's main colour | The club's second colour | The crest as an embroidered patch |
| Corporate | Charcoal | Charcoal, making a one-tone hat | Light grey or tonal embroidery |
When should the brim be a third colour?
A contrast brim, a peak in a different colour from the front, earns its place when a brand or club genuinely has three colours. It frames the logo from below and makes the hat recognisable side-on, but it is also the busiest option, so keep the logo to one or two thread colours when the hat already carries three.
For a quieter third colour, move it underneath: a custom under-brim shows the accent to the wearer and in flashes to everyone else, and a matching closure repeats it at the back. Closures, under-brim prints and labels on custom caps runs through both.
Should the logo be embroidered or patched on a two-tone trucker?
Embroider bold, simple logos and patch detailed ones. Flat embroidery and 3D puff (stitching raised over foam) both sit well on a structured front, a woven patch holds small text, and a leather-look patch suits heritage looks. A patch brings its own background colour, so count it as another colour on the hat; the three patch types compared shows how each finishes, and our trucker construction guide covers the fronts and mesh.
Does each colourway count as a separate design?
Yes. The minimum is 50 hats per design and a new colourway is a new design, so three colourways at launch means 150 hats. Many brands launch one hero colourway and add a second on the reorder. Prices fall through the tiers 50–99, 100–249, 250–499, 500–999 and 1,000+, up to 35% off the 50-piece price; how custom hat pricing works shows how a quote is built.
