Towels for Gyms: reordering

Reordering gym towels is the same fifty-piece process as the first time, with one extra job: matching what you already have. Dyed cotton varies slightly between dye lots, so a repeat run can land a shade off the towels on your shelf. Keep a sealed reference towel, quote your previous job reference, and order before you run out rather than after, and run two will sit alongside run one without anyone noticing.

Why do repeat towel runs drift in colour?

Cotton takes dye in batches. Two batches of the same specified colour can come out fractionally different, and the difference is easiest to see when a new towel is folded on top of one that has been through a year of laundry. Some of that gap is the dye lot and some of it is simply wear: the old towels have faded, the new ones have not. Both are normal, and both are manageable if you plan for them.

The practical fix is a reference. When your first order arrives, pull one towel out, seal it in a bag, and do not use it. That untouched towel is what a repeat run gets matched against, and it beats describing a colour over email. If you never kept one, send a used towel anyway and say so, because a faded reference with an explanation is better than none at all.

How often should a gym restock member towels?

Towels leave a club faster than any other branded item. Members take them home by accident, the laundry writes some off, and the retail shelf empties when a promotion lands. Work backwards from that rather than from the calendar. Count what you hold, count what you lost over a quarter, and set a trigger level that covers the 10 to 15 working day production window plus transit, with a fortnight of slack on top.

Ordering at the trigger level rather than at zero is what keeps you out of a rush. It also lets you use the quantity bands properly: a gym that orders 250 once a year pays less per towel than one that orders fifty five times. What do you need to keep on file for a smooth repeat?

A repeat order is fast when nothing has to be rediscovered. Keep these in one place, ideally in the same folder as your invoice:

• The job reference from the previous run, which pulls up the exact specification we produced against.
• The artwork file at the size it was applied, not a resized copy pulled off a website.
• The towel weight and dimensions as they were quoted, in writing.
• The branding method: woven into the border, or printed onto the face.
• The sealed reference towel, kept out of circulation.

Should you change anything on the second run?

This is the moment to fix what annoyed you. If the sweat towel turned out slightly too small for the equipment racks, change the size now. If the printed logo faded faster than you wanted, move to woven branding on the repeat. What you should not do casually is change the colour, because then you are running two shades in the same club at once and every member sees the difference. Change one variable per run and you keep control of the outcome.
