Sports Team Towels: Bench Towels, Locker Rooms and Gifts
By The Velocity Wear Team
Custom sports towels get a few hundred US searches a month, but athletic departments and booster clubs order them every season. Branded bench towels look professional, locker room towels build pride, and a quality towel makes a great senior night gift.
Bench towels
Football, basketball, volleyball and wrestling benches all use towels. Our gym size, about 12 × 31 in, is easy to drape over a shoulder. Team colors and an embroidered logo look sharp in photos and on streamed games.
Locker room towels
For showers, bath towels, about 28 × 55 in, are the standard. Decide who handles laundry, because towels left damp in lockers smell fast.
Senior night and banquets
An embroidered towel with the team logo, the season and a senior's name or number is a thoughtful keepsake. Bath sheets make especially nice gifts.
Fundraising
Team towels sell well to families and alumni, especially bundled with spirit wear. See our booster club spirit wear guide.
School logos and approvals
Get approval to use school logos. Some districts and colleges control their marks and require licensed vendors for merchandise.
Colors
Team colors are the obvious choice. Darker shades hide grass stains and wear. If a team color is very light, use it in the thread on a darker towel.
Care
Wash after each use, skip fabric softener, dry fully. Keep sick athletes' towels separate as advised by your athletic trainer.
Mistakes to avoid
- 1White bench towels on a muddy field.
- 2No laundry plan for locker room towels.
- 3Using a school logo without approval.
- 4Ordering senior gifts too late for senior night.
Quick checklist before you order
- Bench, locker room or gift towels?
- Logo approved?
- Team colors that hide wear?
- Laundry owner assigned?
- Senior names confirmed?
Numbers and names on athlete towels
College and competitive high school programs sometimes give each athlete a towel with their number embroidered. It prevents mix-ups on the bench and makes a nice keepsake. Ask when ordering how individual numbers affect your order. For younger athletes, many programs use numbers rather than names.
Wrestling and swim programs
Wrestlers use towels during tournaments and in weight rooms, and swimmers need towels at every practice and meet. For these sports, bath towels or bath sheets are more practical than small bench towels. Team colors help athletes find their own towel in a crowded locker room or pool deck.
Athletic trainers and hygiene
Athletic trainers are careful about shared towels, especially with skin infections that can spread in contact sports. Give athletes their own towels rather than sharing, launder after each use, and follow your trainer's hygiene guidance. Branded, numbered towels make individual use easier to manage.
Booster club towels as fundraisers
Parents and alumni happily buy quality team towels, especially embroidered with the school logo and the sport. Offer them in the booster club store alongside hoodies, and consider a senior-year edition with the class year. Pre-orders keep the club from holding stock.
Budget planning
Our minimum is 50 per design. For a single team, towels for athletes plus extras for coaches and managers may reach that. Athletic departments ordering one design across several sports reach it easily and simplify the look.
Order timing
Order before the season so towels are ready for the first home game.
Ordering
Minimum 50 per design. Production takes 10 to 15 working days from artwork approval. See wholesale towels and our rally towels guide.
