Sports Club Towels: Branded Towels for Teams and Members
By The Velocity Wear Team
Professional teams have crested towels in the changing room. Amateur clubs can too, and it's a small detail that makes players feel part of something. Club towels also sell well in club shops and make great end-of-season gifts.
Uses for club towels
- Changing room towels for home players.
- Player of the season or end-of-season gifts.
- Members' shop merchandise.
- Sponsor gifts and hospitality packs.
- Tour packs for players travelling away.
Sizes
For showers, the bath towel, 70 × 140 cm, is the standard. For the gym or sideline, the gym towel, 30 × 80 cm, is handier. Many clubs order both.
Colours
Club colours make towels instantly recognisable. Darker colours hide mud and grass stains. If club colours are very pale, use them in the embroidery on a darker towel.
Crest embroidery
Club crests often have fine detail. Simplify for towel embroidery, and place the crest on the border or near the hem where it's visible when hung. See embroidered towels for placement.
Changing room towel practicalities
If the club provides towels, someone has to wash them. Agree who does it, how often, and where towels are stored. Towels left damp in kit bags quickly smell. Some clubs give players their own named towel for the season instead.
Towels as fundraisers
Crested towels sell well to members, parents and alumni, especially at Christmas. Run a pre-order, add a margin, and be clear about what the money supports.
Sponsors
A sponsor's logo alongside the crest can help cover costs. Agree size and placement, and check any league rules on sponsorship.
Quick checklist before you order
- Bath towels, gym towels, or both?
- Club colours that hide mud?
- Simplified crest file?
- Who launders changing room towels?
- Fundraising pre-order or club stock?
Player-of-the-year and awards
End-of-season awards can include an embroidered towel with the award name and season. It's practical, personal and less forgettable than another plastic trophy. Order alongside the main club towel order to save a separate run.
Away days and tours
Clubs travelling for tournaments or tours need towels for hotel pools, recovery sessions and changing rooms that don't supply them. A named or numbered towel in club colours keeps kit organised and looks sharp in tour photos. Pack towels in players' kit bags with clear instructions to bring them home.
Junior sections and parents
Junior sections often have enthusiastic parents who buy club merchandise. A club towel for swimming lessons, holidays and the beach is a popular alternative to another hoodie. Offer it in the club shop at the start of summer.
Hospitality and sponsor packs
Clubs with hospitality packages or sponsor days can include a crested towel in welcome packs. Sponsors appreciate a quality gift, and it keeps the club in their homes all year.
Storage in the clubhouse
Store spare towels clean and dry in sealed bags or boxes, away from damp changing rooms. Towels stored damp develop mildew quickly. Assign one volunteer to manage towel stock.
Numbering towels
For clubs issuing towels to players for a season, a small embroidered squad number avoids mix-ups in changing rooms. Ask how individual numbers affect your order before finalising.
Order timing
Order before the season starts, allowing 10 to 15 working days of production plus delivery, so towels are ready for the first home fixture.
Ordering
Minimum 50 per design. Gym towels start from £4.50 and bath towels from £8 including branding. Production takes 10 to 15 working days from artwork approval. See wholesale towels and our club hoodies guide for matching kit.
