Spa Towels Wholesale: What Day Spas Should Buy

By The Velocity Wear Team

Spa clients judge a place with their fingertips. A thin, scratchy towel on a massage table undercuts every candle and playlist in the room. A thick, soft towel with a subtle logo does the opposite. Here's how day spas and med spas can buy towels that match the experience.

Where spas use towels

  • Massage and treatment beds: bath towels or bath sheets for draping.
  • Facials: face towels, about 16 × 24 in.
  • Hot towel service: face or hand towels warmed in a cabinet.
  • Relaxation lounges: rolled hand towels.
  • Showers, saunas and pools: bath sheets.

Weight and feel

Spas usually favor heavier towels. Our bath sheet, about 35 × 71 in, is 650 GSM; the bath towel, about 28 × 55 in, is 550 GSM. Plan laundry capacity, because heavier towels take longer to dry.

Color coding

White for treatments signals cleanliness. A darker color for wet areas, body treatments or anything involving oils, clays and self-tan hides marks and keeps towels in the right zone.

Oils and product build-up

Massage oils build up in cotton, causing stiffness and odors, and in commercial dryers oil-soaked linens can be a fire risk if not properly laundered. Wash oily towels with appropriate detergents, follow your laundry equipment's guidance, and never leave oily towels piled warm.

Branding

Keep it quiet: tonal embroidery on the border, a small logo in a corner, or a woven label. The goal is luxury, not advertising.

Presentation

Train staff on one consistent fold or roll with logos facing out. It looks deliberate and elevates the space instantly.

Retail opportunity

Clients who love the towels sometimes ask to buy them. A few embroidered towels at the front desk, in branded bags, make a thoughtful retail add-on or gift card pairing.

Quick checklist before you order

  • Sizes mapped to each area?
  • Heavier weights for treatments?
  • Color coding for oils and wet areas?
  • Safe laundry process for oily linens?
  • Tonal logo or woven label?

Par levels for a day spa

Count treatment rooms, treatments per room per day, and towels per treatment. A facial may use a face towel, a hand towel and a bath towel; a massage may use two bath sheets. Multiply for a full day, then hold at least two to three days of stock so laundry never runs the spa out on a busy Saturday. Add extra for locker rooms, relaxation lounges and wet areas.

In-house laundry vs linen service

Smaller spas often launder in-house, which gives control over detergents, temperature and softness, but takes staff time and machine capacity. Larger spas use a linen service, which saves labor but can mean towels mixed with other clients' stock unless your branded towels are tracked separately. If you use a service, confirm they return your embroidered towels and ask what process they use for oily linens.

Heated towel cabinets

Warm towels are a signature spa touch. Face and hand towels heated in a cabinet feel luxurious, but always check temperature before placing a towel on a client and follow the cabinet manufacturer's guidance. Rotate towels so they don't sit in the cabinet for long periods.

Replacement cycles

Spa towels see heavy use and hot washes. Replace towels that are thin, stained or losing softness before clients notice. Buying in planned batches, rather than emergency top-ups, keeps the look consistent across treatment rooms. Keep a written spec so each batch matches the last.

Med spas

Medical spas combine clinical treatments with spa comfort. White towels signal cleanliness for clinical areas, while softer colors can be used in relaxation spaces. Follow any clinical hygiene protocols that apply to your treatments.
