Returns-friendly packaging for clothing is packaging a customer can open, try the garment and close again around it: a resealable zip-seal bag with a size sticker and a style reference on the face. Velocity Wear makes these as frosted garment bags printed with your logo, from 50 bags per design, in 10 to 15 working days from artwork approval.
What makes clothing packaging returns-friendly?
Three things: it opens without being destroyed, it says what is inside, and it protects the garment on the way back as well as on the way out. A bag that has to be torn fails the first test, and a garment that must be unfolded to find its size fails the second. A returns-ready pack has:
- A closure that reopens, such as a zip seal: two interlocking tracks that press shut and pull apart again.
- The size on a sticker outside the bag, readable without opening it.
- A style or SKU reference, where SKU (stock keeping unit) means the code for one style, colour and size.
- Water-resistant film, so the garment comes back as clean as it left.
- Your own returns note in the parcel, asking the customer to reseal the item in its bag.
- An outer mailer the customer can reuse or replace for the journey back.
The bag covers the first four. The resealable garment bags we print carry your logo, the zip seal, size stickers and custom labels; the returns note and the outer mailer are yours to choose.

How does a resealable bag help a customer send clothes back?
It gives them an obvious way to do it. A customer who has tried on a hoodie and wants another size still has the bag it arrived in, intact, so the hoodie goes back in, the zip closes and the parcel is posted. Without that, the garment tends to travel back loose in whatever envelope is to hand, picking up marks on the way. The same reopening helps if they keep the item, because the bag becomes somewhere to store it, which is the practical sense in which a garment bag is reusable. The two closures are compared in zip-seal against self-seal bags.
What should the returns bench see first?
The sticker. Processing a return is a run of small checks, and the bag decides how many of them need the garment unfolded.
| Returns step | What slows it down | What the bag does |
|---|---|---|
| Opening the parcel | A loose garment tangled with packing material | The item arrives in its own sealed bag |
| Identifying the item | Unfolding it to read the neck label | Size sticker and style label readable on the bag face |
| Matching it to the order | Searching the system by description | A custom label carries the SKU or style reference |
| Checking condition | Dust or damp picked up in transit | Water-resistant film kept it clean |
| Restocking | Finding a new bag for it | An undamaged bag closes again around the refolded garment |
What else a label on the bag face can carry, from colour references to barcodes, is covered in size stickers and labels on garment bags.
Does returns-friendly packaging reduce returns?
Not by itself, and it is worth being clear about that. Most clothing returns are about fit or taste, and packaging changes neither. Better size guidance and clearer product pages do, as covered in how to reduce returns in fashion ecommerce. What the right bag changes is the cost of each return that still happens: the item comes back clean, identifiable and quick to restock, not creased, unlabelled and in need of new packaging. For the policy side, see handling returns and exchanges for a clothing brand.
Building it into your dispatch routine
Returns-friendly packaging is decided at dispatch, not at the returns bench. Bag and sticker every garment the same way, put your returns note in every parcel, and keep spare bags for items that come back in a damaged one. Ordering the bags with your clothing takes the first step off your bench entirely, because garments made by Velocity Wear are folded, bagged and stickered at the factory before they ship.
What to send us
Use the enquiry form on this page for your logo, the garments the bags will hold, the size run for the stickers, any style or SKU references you want on a label, the number of bags per design, and your delivery country and date. The specification is on the returns-ready bag page, and the printed polythene bag guide covers the range from end to end.
