The custom water bottle designs that print well use one clean mark, set vertically or centred on the front, in a colour that contrasts with the finish. The logo is printed to a matte finish flush with the powder coat, and every design is proofed before production. Orders start at 50 pieces per design and take 10 to 15 working days from artwork approval.

Why does a bottle need a different design approach?

A bottle is a curved, narrow surface seen from one side at a time, so a wide logo wraps out of view at both ends. That is why a horizontal logo built for a letterhead often looks cramped on a bottle, and why turning it vertical, reading up the body, gives it room. The shapes you are designing for are on the bottle range page.

Ten design ideas that work on a bottle

  1. 1Run the logo vertically up the body, reading from bottom to top.
  2. 2Use one strong mark and leave space around it; empty powder coat looks deliberate.
  3. 3Choose a logo colour that contrasts with the finish, such as white on navy.
  4. 4Add a tagline of a few words, set small near the base.
  5. 5Put the web address or social handle on the back, small.
  6. 6Use the icon on its own, without the wordmark, for a cleaner retail look.
  7. 7Pick two finishes that suit one logo colour, such as navy and olive with a white mark.
  8. 8Match the gift box to the bottle so the logo appears on both in the same colour.
  9. 9For events, add the event name small below the logo, knowing each new date is a new design.
  10. 10For teams, use the crest large and the club name small, rather than a sponsor list.

Each of these keeps the order to one artwork, which matters because each separate logo or artwork counts as its own design with its own 50 pieces. Let the finishes supply the variety, not the print.

Where should the logo go on a water bottle?

Centre it on the front, in the middle of the body, clear of the shoulder where the bottle narrows toward the cap and clear of the base. On a tumbler, the equivalent is the face opposite the handle. A second, smaller mark on the back is fine; a wrap-around design usually is not, because it can never be seen whole.

What colour should the logo be?

Whatever contrasts with the finish. A white logo reads on matte black, navy, olive and red; a dark logo reads on matte white and stainless steel. If you are ordering several finishes, choose one logo colour that works on all of them to keep it a single artwork. Choosing bottle colours has the full pairing for all eight finishes, with the audience each tends to suit.

Should the design include a tagline?

A short one, yes. Three or four words, set small, give a bottle character without cluttering it. A long mission statement or a list of services turns a bottle into a leaflet, and leaflets get left behind.

How is the artwork checked before printing?

Every design is proofed, and the order starts from your approval of that proof. Send a vector file if you have one. The proof is where to check size, position and colour, because nothing is printed until you sign it off. Wholesale bottles: artwork setup covers file preparation, and how custom water bottles are made explains what happens after approval.

Common questions about drinkware — answered.

A good water bottle logo design is one clear mark, sized to the front of the bottle, in a colour that contrasts with the finish. Vertical layouts suit a tall bottle, bold shapes read better than fine detail on a curve, and a short tagline is enough text. Velocity Wear proofs every design before it goes to print.

The logo on a custom water bottle usually goes front and centre, in the middle of the body, away from the shoulder near the cap and away from the base. That is the area visible when the bottle stands on a desk or is held. On a handled tumbler, the face opposite the handle does the same job.

Printing a different design on each bottle is not practical in bulk, because each separate logo or artwork counts as its own design with a 50-piece minimum. Bottle colours can be mixed freely within a design, so variety across a run usually comes from the finishes rather than from the artwork.

The best file for a bottle logo is vector artwork, such as AI, EPS, SVG or PDF, because it scales cleanly to the print size. Otherwise, send the highest-resolution JPEG or PNG you have. The artwork is proofed before production, and the order only starts once you approve the proof.

The logo on Velocity Wear custom bottles is printed rather than engraved: it is printed to a matte finish that sits flush with the powder coat, so it survives daily handling and washing. Engraving is not offered on this range. Send the logo in the colour you want and the proof will show it on your chosen finish.
