Work polo shirts get about sixteen hundred UK searches a month, mostly from tradespeople and small firms kitting out a team. For trades, uniform isn't vanity. A homeowner who opens the door to someone in a clean branded polo relaxes a little. A van full of people in matching kit looks like a proper firm. And that polo is advertising your number on every job.
Pick a fabric that survives the job
- Poly-cotton piqué: tougher than pure cotton, holds colour, shrinks less. The trades favourite.
- Performance polyester: dries fast, wicks sweat. Good for outdoor and physical work.
- Pure cotton: comfortable but fades and shrinks faster under heavy washing.
Most trades end up on a poly-cotton blend. It handles 60-degree washes and doesn't look tired after a month.
Colours that hide a day's work
Navy, charcoal, black and bottle green hide dust, grease and paint. Light grey shows sweat. White is a brave choice for anyone near plaster or oil. If your brand colour is bright, use it for the logo.
Branding that brings in work
Embroider the logo on the left chest. It survives industrial washing far better than print. On the back, print your business name, phone number or website in large, clear letters. Neighbours see the back of your polo while you're working on the house next door, and it's where a surprising number of calls come from.
Check what your trade body expects
If you display a registration or accreditation logo, like a gas safety or electrical scheme mark, check the scheme's rules before putting it on clothing. Most schemes have specific guidance on how and where their marks can be used.
Hi-vis is separate

How many per person
Trades staff realistically need three to five polos each to get through a working week with washing. Order enough, plus a few spares for new starters. Our minimum is 50 per design, sizes mixed, which a team of five covers easily.
Tax and uniforms
Branded uniforms can be treated differently for tax than everyday clothing, both for the business and employees. Ask your accountant how to handle it.
Winter layers to match
Polos cover spring to autumn. For winter, add a branded sweatshirt, fleece or softshell with the same logo and colour so the team looks consistent year-round. See jackets and outerwear.

Trades businesses look most professional when the polo matches the van livery, the invoice header and the website. Customers see a joined-up business. Use the same logo version and colours on everything, and keep the uniform spec with your other brand files.
