Women's embroidered workwear fits when it is cut from a separate ladies' pattern, not a men's shirt scaled down. A proper cut changes the shoulder, the bust, the waist and the sleeve. What makes a ladies-fit polo different from a unisex one?
A unisex polo is almost always a men's pattern with a different label: straight side seams, broad shoulders, a long body and sleeves that reach the elbow on a smaller frame. A ladies-fit polo is drafted separately, with room at the bust so the placket (the buttoned opening at the neck) lies flat, and a waist shaped through the side seams.

Why does a unisex-only uniform order fail?
It asks part of the team to wear the wrong garment. A woman on a unisex order chooses between a size that fits the shoulders and swamps the body, or one that fits the body and pulls across the bust. Either way the uniform looks untidy, disappears under a cardigan or stays in a drawer, and kit nobody wears is the most expensive kind. Unisex is fine for some garments. A relaxed hoodie or fleece is often shared happily, and an apron fits by how it ties. The working rule: anything with a collar, a placket or a fitted body should come in both cuts, and anything worn loose over the top can be one.
Which fabric weights suit fitted women's uniform?
The fabric follows the role, not the cut. Front-of-house polos run 200–220 GSM (grams per square metre, the measure of fabric weight) piqué cotton, a knit with a fine honeycomb texture, or a 65/35 poly-cotton where daily hot washing matters more than feel. Kitchen and workshop garments move up to 240 GSM woven fabrics, and fleeces for outdoor teams sit at 300–340 GSM.
Pre-shrinking matters more on a fitted cut: a boxy shirt that loses a centimetre goes unnoticed, a shaped one does not. Every fabric on our corporate uniforms page is pre-shrunk and colourfast, specified for 60°C washing and tumble drying, so a ladies-fit polo still fits after months of service.
How should you collect sizes from staff?
Privately, with both cuts offered to everyone and a measured chart to check against. Sizes called out across a busy break room produce guesses, and guesses produce a pile of exchanges three weeks after delivery. A short routine avoids that:
- 1Send a private form asking for name, preferred cut and size, with no assumption about which cut anyone will choose.
- 2Label the options by cut, such as ladies-fit and classic fit, and let anyone pick either.
- 3Share the size chart in centimetres or inches, so people compare it against a top that already fits them.
- 4Order a sample of each cut in the sizes people are unsure about: £150 covers one or two pieces, shipped worldwide, and is credited against the bulk order.
- 5Tell us the split between cuts when you enquire, because it affects how the order is quoted.

Keeping the fit consistent on reorders
A fitted garment exposes a mismatched reorder faster than a baggy one. Your size grade, colour references, artwork and thread codes stay on file with us, so a reorder months later comes off the same grade in the same colour rather than an approximation. Keep one unworn piece of each cut from the first run as a reference to check the next delivery against.
