Labels and Packaging for Bulk Jackets & Outerwear
By The Velocity Wear Team
Bulk jackets can carry custom woven neck labels, tear-out labels, printed swing tags and your own packaging. That is what makes a jacket read as your product rather than a branded blank. The labelling is specified alongside the garment and runs within the same 10 to 15 working day build, so it needs to be settled at artwork stage rather than added later.
Which label options exist on a jacket?
Three things are usually in play. A custom woven neck label replaces the manufacturer label with yours, stitched in at the collar. A tear-out label does the same job but is designed to be removed by the wearer, which suits garments where anything at the nape is irritating against the skin. A swing tag hangs off the zip pull or a cuff and carries your name, the size and anything else you print on it. Any combination of the three is possible, and each is a separate piece of artwork to supply. Branding beyond the print covers the whole set in more depth.

Where does a woven label sit in outerwear?
Usually at the centre back neck, inside the collar, though outerwear gives you more choices than a tee does. A jacket with a hood has a facing seam that can take a label. A lined jacket can carry one on the inside body panel where it is visible when the garment is open, which is a common placement for varsity and coach styles. Side-seam labels near the hem are the discreet option. Say which placement you want at quote stage, because it affects how the garment is assembled rather than being applied at the end.
What has to be on a care label?
Fibre composition, care symbols and country of origin are the basic content, and they are separate from your branding label even if they end up in the same place. Getting this wrong is an avoidable problem for anyone selling to consumers, and the requirements differ across the UK, USA and Europe, so it is worth checking against the markets you actually sell into. Care labels and clothing compliance basics is the starting point. For internal staff kit the compliance stakes are lower, but the care information still saves a jacket from being ruined in a wash.
How do jackets arrive packed?
Individually bagged and boxed as standard, which keeps outerwear clean in transit and makes distribution straightforward at the other end. Beyond that, packaging is part of the private label offer: your own printed polythene bags, your own tissue or inserts, or size-run boxes organised so a shop or a warehouse can unpack them without sorting. If the jackets are going out to individual customers, packing for that at the factory removes a whole step from your own process, and it is quoted with the job rather than assumed.
Does private label change the cost or the minimum?
The minimum does not move: 50 pieces per design, sizes mixed as you wish. Labels and packaging are quoted with the job, as jackets and outerwear are generally, since a woven label run and a printed bag are separate manufactured items with their own setup. What does help is quantity, because label and bag setup spreads across the run the same way screen setup does, and the discount ladder reaches 35% off the 50-piece price at the top band as shown on the pricing page. Specify labelling at the same time as the garment on the wholesale jackets page so it is all in one quote.
