Hoodies for Charities: cost
By The Velocity Wear Team
Charity hoodies start at $31 per piece at the 50-piece minimum, and the discount reaches up to 35% as quantity rises. Whether that works for a fundraiser depends less on the unit price than on the gap between it and what supporters will pay. Decide the sale price first, then choose the volume band that makes the margin acceptable.
What sits inside the per-piece price?
The garment itself is most of it. Brushed-back fleece between 280 and 450 GSM is a real material cost, and the heavier end of the range costs more because there is more of it. Decoration is the next layer, and it scales with the number of placements rather than with how attached you are to the design.
Then there is transit, which charities routinely leave out of the calculation and then absorb from the proceeds. Work from your landed cost per piece, not from the from-price, when you set a sale price. Our wholesale hoodies page lists the garment options and the charities and fundraising page covers the rest of what tends to be ordered alongside.

How does volume change the fundraising margin?
Sharply, and in both directions. The bands are 50 to 99, 100 to 249, 250 to 499, 500 to 999 and 1,000 plus, so a larger run widens the margin on every piece sold. It also increases the amount of money committed before a single hoodie has been bought by a supporter, which for a small charity is a real exposure.
A safe structure is to size the run against confirmed demand rather than hoped-for demand. Run a pre-order among supporters, count the commitments, then place the order at the band that count reaches. That way the volume discount is earned on stock you already know is sold, rather than gambled on stock you hope will be.
What should the sale price be?
- Start from the landed cost per piece, including transit and any card or platform fees.
- Add the contribution you want each hoodie to make to the cause.
- Sense-check it against what a comparable hoodie sells for to the same audience.
- Round to a figure that reads as a donation with a garment attached, rather than a retail bargain.
Supporters buying a charity hoodie are not comparison shopping. They are donating and receiving something, which means the sale price can sit above a pure retail calculation without resistance, provided the garment is visibly good. A thin hoodie undermines that argument faster than any price does. The full component breakdown is in how much do custom hoodies cost.
Where do charity hoodie budgets go wrong?
Two places. The first is ordering multiple colourways, because each colourway that needs its own screens is a separate design with its own fifty pieces, so three colours means 150 hoodies committed rather than fifty. The second is over-ordering the extreme sizes, which converts working capital into stock that sits.
Both are avoidable with a single conversation before the order goes in. One colour, one fit, a size split built from the pre-order list, and a quantity that matches the band you actually reach.
