Fits and Cuts for Wholesale Hoodies

Three cuts cover almost every bulk hoodie order: regular, boxy and oversized. Regular follows the body with a straight side seam. Boxy is wider through the chest with a shorter body, so it sits at the waistband. Oversized drops the shoulder seam down the arm and adds length everywhere. The cut you pick changes the size split you need, which is where most first orders go wrong.
How does each cut size on a real team?
A regular fit sizes predictably. People order what they normally wear and it lands. A boxy cut is wider but shorter, so tall wearers size up for length and end up with something too wide, while shorter wearers find their usual size works fine. An oversized cut is the awkward one: it is designed to be worn large, so somebody who wears a medium in a regular hoodie will often want a small in an oversized one, and nobody believes that until they try it.
This is why a size chart with real measurements beats letters. Publish chest width laid flat and body length from the high point of the shoulder for every size you are ordering, and let people measure a hoodie they already own. It removes the argument entirely. Which cut suits which order?
Uniform and staff kit does best in regular fit. It photographs consistently across a mixed team, it looks tidy under an apron or a jacket, and nobody has to be talked into their size. Retail and merch drops lean oversized, because that is what the market currently buys and a boxier silhouette reads as considered rather than corporate. Club and team kit sits between the two, and committees usually land on regular because it is the cut that annoys the fewest members.
Fabric weight pushes the decision as well. Oversized at 450 GSM is a lot of garment, and on a smaller frame it can look like a borrowed coat. Oversized at 280 to 320 GSM drapes and moves. What does the cut do to the order itself?
The 50-piece minimum is per design, and a different block is a different design. Running a regular fit for staff and an oversized one for retail means two runs of 50, not one run of 100 split down the middle. Sizes, on the other hand, mix freely inside a single design at no extra cost, so a 50-piece order can be any spread of XS to 3XL you like. Cut also changes where decoration can go. A dropped shoulder moves the natural chest print position down and out, so artwork centred by eye on a regular block sits too low on an oversized one. Embroidery across a side seam is not something to attempt on a boxy cut with a short body. Fix the block first, then place the artwork, not the other way round.
How should sizes be split on a first order?
If you have names, collect actual sizes and order to them with a few spares in the two middle sizes. If you do not, weight the middle heavily: most mixed adult groups concentrate in M and L, with smaller tails at either end. Order the extremes thin, because an unworn 3XL and an unworn XS cost the same as a hoodie somebody actually wanted. For teams that will grow, keeping five or six spares back in the sizes you know you will need again is cheaper than a second run later.
