Print Placement on Denim Jackets

The back yoke is the largest clean area on a denim jacket and takes the main design. The left chest above the pocket holds a small mark. Sleeves suit narrow vertical artwork, and the pocket flap takes a badge at most. Seams, buttons and pocket stitching decide those limits, not the size of your logo file.
Where can artwork actually go on a denim jacket?
Four positions carry almost every order. The upper back, below the yoke seam and above the waistband, is the biggest usable rectangle and where a statement design belongs. The left chest sits above the pocket and is bounded tightly by the pocket stitching and the placket. The upper sleeve takes a narrow strip. The pocket flap itself takes a small badge or a woven patch.
Everything else fights the construction. A design crossing the yoke seam will show a step where the panels meet. A chest design overlapping the pocket cannot be hooped or screened flat, so it distorts. The glossary covers the panel names if you are describing a position in an enquiry.
What size should a back piece be?
Large enough to be the reason someone wears the jacket, and small enough to stay clear of the yoke seam at the top and the waistband at the bottom. That usable band is narrower than people expect, and it moves with the cut: a boxy or oversized body gives more width and less height, a regular cut gives the opposite.

Which decoration method suits which panel?
Embroidery works best small to medium: chest marks, sleeve details and compact back designs. It sits proud of the twill and reads well at distance. Patches, woven or embroidered, are the strongest answer for a large back design, because the artwork lives on its own backing cloth and is not fighting the denim grain underneath.
Screen printing and DTF both work on denim, though the weave absorbs the first ink pass so the build is heavier than it would be on jersey. Reserve printing for artwork with fine detail or many colours that embroidery could not resolve. 3D puff and sublimation exist in our range but suit other fabrics better than denim.
What gets in the way of a clean placement?
Hardware, mostly. Buttons, rivets and the metal on the chest pockets prevent a panel being laid flat under a screen or clamped in a hoop. Thick seams do the same. A placement that looks fine on a flat technical drawing can be physically impossible once the jacket exists, which is why placements get confirmed against the real garment rather than the sketch.
Send your positions with measurements from a fixed point, such as the distance down from the yoke seam and across from the centre. That removes the guesswork entirely. Sizing the artwork across a size run needs a decision of its own. A back design that fills the panel on an extra large will run into the seams on a small, and scaling every size down to suit the smallest wastes the space on the larger ones. The usual compromise is two artwork scales across the run, which costs nothing extra in most cases because the tooling is being made anyway. Raise it while the artwork is being prepared rather than after approval.
