Dance School Hoodies and Tees: Kit for Classes and Shows
By The Velocity Wear Team
Dance schools are communities of students, parents and teachers who spend a lot of time together at classes, rehearsals, competitions and shows. School hoodies keep dancers warm between routines and make the school look like a team backstage.
What schools order
- Hoodies with the school name and dancer's name on the back.
- Tees for classes and summer schools.
- Show tees with the production name and year.
- Competition team kit.
- Teacher and assistant tees.
Names on the back
Personalised hoodies are the favourite. Collect names exactly as they should appear. For safeguarding, many schools use first names only, or no names on kit worn in public. Decide your policy first.
Sizing children
Dance schools span tiny tots to adults. Collect sizes through parents, and advise sizing up for growing children. Our minimum is 20 per design with children's and adult sizes mixed.
Design
Pretty script lettering, bold athletic fonts, or a sparkly-look print for younger dancers. Keep the school logo consistent across all kit.
Show tees
Annual show tees are keepsakes. Put the production name, year and maybe every dancer's name on the back. Sell to parents and family as a fundraiser.
Competitions
Competition team hoodies in the school colours look fantastic in the wings and in photos. Order well before competition season.
Timing
Production takes 10 to 15 working days from artwork approval, plus delivery. For Christmas shows, approve artwork by early November. For summer shows, by May.
Mistakes to avoid
- 1No safeguarding decision on names.
- 2Ordering before show dates are confirmed.
- 3Tiny text for all dancers' names.
- 4Late orders for competition season.
Quick checklist
- Names policy decided?
- Sizes collected through parents?
- Show and competition dates confirmed?
- Pre-orders and payment?
- Artwork approved in time?
Teachers and assistants
Teachers and assistants should be easy to spot at shows and competitions, especially backstage where children need to find a trusted adult quickly. A distinct colour, or TEACHER or CHAPERONE on the back, helps. Include teachers in the main order so the whole school matches in photos.
Chaperones and backstage safeguarding
Shows and competitions involve chaperones supervising children backstage. Chaperone tees or lanyards make their role obvious to venue staff. Follow your school's safeguarding policy and any venue requirements on licensed chaperones for performances involving children.
Leavers and graduating dancers
Dancers leaving for university or finishing their final grade exams appreciate a leavers hoodie or tee with the school name, their years at the school and the names of their class. It's a lovely keepsake of a big part of growing up.
Uniform shop alternatives
Many dance schools sell class uniform, such as leotards and tights, through specialist dancewear suppliers. School hoodies and tees sit alongside that uniform. Offer them through the same ordering system parents already use if possible, so it feels simple and official.
Pricing for families
Families with several children at a dance school feel costs quickly. Consider a sibling discount on hoodies, or a bundle with a show tee. Check costs on the calculator first so any discount still covers the order.
Colours that photograph well on stage
Backstage and wings photos are often taken in dim light. Bright or mid-tone hoodies with light-coloured printing show up far better than black on black. If your school colour is dark, use a bright contrasting print so the names on the back are readable in photos.
Ordering once a year
Many schools open a hoodie order at the start of the academic year, when new students join and older students outgrow last year's size.
