Hoodies get all the attention, but crewneck sweatshirts have been creeping up. Embroidered sweatshirts in particular are one of those UK searches with plenty of demand and very little competition. They look smarter, they layer over a collar, and they give a design a clean, uninterrupted canvas without a hood or a pocket in the way.
Crewneck or hoodie?
- Choose a crewneck for offices, cafés, shops and anywhere a hoodie looks too casual.
- Choose a crewneck if people wear it over a shirt or polo collar.
- Choose a crewneck for a minimal, premium brand look. Think small embroidered wordmark, nothing else.

Embroidered sweatshirts: the easy win
The classic embroidered sweatshirt is a small word or logo stitched on the centre chest or left chest. It's understated and looks expensive. Some ideas that work well:
- A single word in a serif or script font, centred high on the chest.
- Tonal thread, like cream on oatmeal or navy on navy.
- A small location line underneath, such as a city name and a year.
- A sleeve or cuff detail for a second touch of branding.
Printed sweatshirts
Without a hood or pocket, a crewneck has a big flat front. It's a great canvas for a bold graphic or a retro print. Screen printing suits simple bold designs; DTF handles full colour. Puff print lettering across the chest works well too.
Fit and fabric
A slightly boxy, relaxed crewneck with dropped shoulders is the current look. Regular fits are better for workwear. Mid-weight fleece suits most uses, and brushed inner fleece is warmest. If you want it to feel premium, go heavier and add a custom woven label.

Sweatshirts suit hen parties who want something nicer than a slogan tee, office Christmas gifts, family reunions and university societies. Names can go on the back or a sleeve, and embroidered initials look particularly smart.
Sweatshirts for small shops and cafés
Independent bookshops, cafés, bakeries and plant shops sell crewnecks well because regulars want to wear the name of a place they love. A simple embroidered name and town on a neutral sweatshirt, displayed by the till, sells steadily. Start with one colour and a 50-piece run.
Crewnecks for workwear
Offices, clinics and front-of-house teams often prefer a crewneck to a hoodie because it looks smarter. Navy or charcoal with a small embroidered logo layers neatly over a polo in winter.
Order timing
Crewneck demand rises from September. Order by early October for autumn events and by early November for Christmas gifts, allowing 10 to 15 working days of production plus delivery.
Care and colour
Light colours like oatmeal, sand, cream and sage are very popular for crewnecks, but they show marks. For work use, navy, charcoal and bottle green are more forgiving. Wash inside out on a cool wash to keep prints and embroidery looking good.
