Velocity Wear prints and embroiders clothing for Worcester businesses as an online supplier, with tracked UK delivery. The city buys clothing for two quite different reasons: engineering and manufacturing sites need hard-wearing embroidered workwear that survives industrial laundry, while the cathedral quarter, the racecourse and the visitor trade need printed tees, staff polos and merchandise. The methods that suit each barely overlap.

A Manufacturing City With a Tourist Front Door

Worcester has a substantial engineering and manufacturing base, in heating products, condiments and precision work, alongside a visitor economy built around the cathedral, the riverside, Pitchcroft and cricket at New Road. Those two economies sit within walking distance of each other and want opposite things from a garment.

A production site wants a small, durable, unfussy mark on a polo that will be washed to death. A riverside bar wants staff who look like they belong to the place, and a merchandise line that visitors will actually pay for. If you run both sides, and plenty of local groups do, treat them as separate orders that happen to share artwork.

Getting One Brand Colour Out of Four Processes

This is the thing that catches out organisations with a proper brand guide. A screen printing ink is mixed to a reference. An embroidery thread comes from a fixed shade card, so you pick the nearest available match rather than mixing one. A DTF transfer is built from process colours. A dyed garment is a fifth thing again. Put a polo, a hoodie and a tee side by side and the same logo can read as three shades of the same colour.

There are two honest ways to handle it. Either accept a small drift and specify the closest thread shade once, in writing, so every future order uses the same one, or design a second brand mark in a single flat colour for stitched applications. Fixing the thread reference early is the cheap move. Discovering the drift when the second order arrives and does not match the first is the expensive one.

Factory Floors Are Hard on Surface Prints

Oil, swarf, solvent and a hot wash cycle will find the weak point in any printed garment. Prints sit on the surface of the fabric, so they abrade against benches and machinery, and they crack when washed repeatedly at high temperature. Embroidery is stitched through the cloth, which is why it stays put.

The exception is any coated or waterproof outer layer. Embroidery is a stitching process, and every stitch is a hole through a membrane you paid for. Brand the fleece underneath, or use a heat-applied transfer, rather than perforating the barrier.

Method Choices for a Mixed Order

  • Embroidery for production polos, fleeces, softshells and anything laundered hot and often.
  • Screen printing for volume tees and hoodies in one or two colours, where the per-colour setup is spread across a big run.
  • DTF where the artwork is full colour, detailed or needed on a short run, and for printing onto polyester where DTG cannot go.
  • DTG for soft, detailed prints on cotton retail tees sold to visitors rather than issued to staff.
  • Vinyl for individual names, roles or numbers added per garment without paying setup for each variation.

Race Days, Riverside Events and Cricket

Event-facing kit has a different brief from either factory or bar. On a busy race day or a match at New Road, the job of a staff shirt is to be spotted by a confused visitor from across a crowded concourse. Contrast beats subtlety. A large clear role word on the back, in a colour the crowd is not wearing, does more good than a beautifully rendered logo on the chest.

Buy a mid-layer as well. Riverside Worcester is exposed and the temperature between a morning setup and an afternoon crowd can be brutal. If your team layers up with their own coats, the visual system you paid for disappears at exactly the moment people need it.

“"A brand colour is not a colour. It is four slightly different colours pretending to agree."”

The Cathedral Quarter Prefers a Quieter Mark

Independent shops, restaurants and galleries around Friar Street, New Street and the cathedral precinct sit against old frontages, and a full-chest logo looks like it wandered in from a retail park. Small tonal embroidery on an apron, or a single-colour print in a muted ink, suits that setting far better and usually costs less as well.

Minimums, Timing and Bulk

Minimum order is 50 pieces per order with sizes mixed freely, so a small independent can order sensibly without warehousing 50 of every size. Production starts at artwork approval, not order placement: allow around 10 to 15 working days for screen printing and embroidery, nearer 15 to 20 for sublimation and complex jobs, then 2 to 5 working days for UK delivery. The free Design Studio previews artwork on the garment and the instant price calculator updates as you change quantity, with bulk discounts reaching up to around 35% as volumes rise.

Order what you just read about

Every range is made to order from a 50-piece minimum in 10–15 working days, with tiered pricing up to 35% off at volume. Price your order or order samples first.

FAQ

Quick Answers

Common questions about printing — answered.

Close, but not identical. Thread comes from a fixed shade card while inks are mixed, so there is usually a small shade difference. Agreeing one thread reference up front keeps every future order consistent with itself.

It is possible but rarely wise. Stitching perforates the waterproof layer. A heat-applied transfer, or branding a fleece mid-layer instead, keeps the jacket doing its job.

Yes. Velocity Wear is online only, with tracked delivery to Worcester and across the UK, typically 2 to 5 working days after dispatch, plus USA, Europe and worldwide shipping.

Screen printing, if you can keep the design to one or two colours. Setup is charged per colour, so colour count matters more than run size once you are into three figures.
