Reordering Wholesale Joggers in Colour

A repeat jogger order is straightforward while the design is unchanged: the production file is already held, so the run goes to the same 10 to 15 working days from approval. The part that needs attention is colour. Dye lots move between runs, so if the shade has to match the last delivery, say so before production and keep a piece back to match against.
Why does the colour move between runs?
Fabric is dyed in batches. Each batch is mixed, heated and run to a tolerance, and two batches of the same recipe land close to each other but not identically. Nobody notices across a shop floor. People notice immediately when a new pair is worn next to an old one, or when two halves of the same team order months apart.
The same applies to ink and thread in a smaller way. Inks are mixed to a reference each time and threads come from batch-dyed cones. What should you keep from the first run?
One untouched garment, unwashed, stored out of the light. That pair is your reference, and it is worth more than any note in a file, because it shows the fabric, the shade, the print position and the finish exactly as they were delivered. A washed and worn pair is not a reference, since both washing and daylight shift colour.
Also keep the order paperwork: the body colour specified, the ink references, the decoration positions with measurements, the size split and the quantity tier. A repeat order that arrives as a slug of accurate detail rather than a request to do the same again is faster to quote and far less likely to drift. When should the reorder go in?
Work from a stock level rather than an empty shelf. Production is 10 to 15 working days from approval and transit sits on top, so your trigger point is the quantity that covers that whole window at your current rate of sale, plus a buffer for an unusually busy fortnight.
For staff kit, tie the trigger to headcount instead. When spares drop below the number of new starters you would normally take in a quarter, reorder. Both approaches beat the common alternative, which is noticing at the point the last pair goes out and then spending a month with people out of uniform. Can you change anything on a repeat run?
You can change quantity and size split freely, and those are the usual changes anyway, since the second order should reflect what actually sold. Changing the body colour or the artwork creates a new design with its own fifty-piece minimum, so it is a new run rather than a repeat.
Changing decoration method is possible but needs a fresh setup and a new approval, so treat it as a new sign-off rather than a straight repeat.
