Polo Shirts With Your Logo: A Small Business Playbook
By The Velocity Wear Team
Polo shirts with a logo get about twenty-nine hundred US searches a month. Most come from small businesses: lawn care companies, cleaning services, pest control, dental offices, insurance agencies and pool services. For a small business, a good logo polo does three jobs at once. It's the uniform, it's the reason a customer trusts the person at the door, and it's advertising.
Get your logo ready for thread
Find the original vector file from your designer: AI, EPS, SVG or PDF. If you only have a PNG from your website, say so, as it can usually be recreated. Then make an embroidery-friendly version: drop tiny taglines, thicken thin lines, and consider a simpler one- or two-color version.
Pick colors that work every day
Navy, black, charcoal and dark green hide dirt and look professional. White looks crisp for offices but won't last in outdoor work. If your brand color is bright, put it in the logo or on a sleeve accent rather than making the whole shirt neon.
Placement that sells
- Left chest logo for a professional look.
- Back yoke with your website or phone number so neighbors see it while you work.
- Right chest with the employee's first name or title for a personal touch.
- Sleeve with a small secondary mark or license number if relevant.
Choose fabric for the work
Outdoor services in hot states should use performance polos that wick sweat. Office-based businesses can go with cotton or poly-cotton piqué. If shirts are washed daily, a poly-cotton blend lasts longest.
How many to order
Our minimum is 20 per design with sizes mixed. For a team of five, that's four shirts each. For a team of two, it's plenty of shirts plus spares for new hires and giveaways to loyal customers.
Get marketing value
Photograph your team in matching polos for your website, Google Business Profile and social media. Wear them at community events and job fairs. Customers trust a business that looks organized, and a uniformed team photo communicates that instantly.
Tax
Branded uniforms that aren't suitable for everyday wear may be deductible business expenses. Ask your accountant.
Keep a few spares
Small businesses hire unexpectedly and shirts get ruined on jobs. Keep a small stash of spares in common sizes so a new employee looks like part of the team on day one. It's much easier than trying to reorder two shirts when you're already busy.
Plan a reorder spec
Write down the polo style, color, logo size in inches, placement and thread color, and save your logo files somewhere you'll find them next year. A reorder then looks identical rather than almost the same.
Seasonal polos and layers
In hot states, performance polos work year-round. In colder regions, pair polos with a branded quarter zip or softshell for winter. Keep the logo size and thread color the same across garments so the look stays consistent.
Polos as customer gifts
Some small businesses give polos to loyal customers or partners, such as a golf-friendly performance polo for a long-time client. Keep the branding subtle so it's something they'll wear on the course.
Pricing and timing
Polos start from $18 each at 20 pieces, with embroidery adding a little. Check totals on the calculator. Production takes 10 to 15 working days after proof approval. See polo shirts and read our custom polo shirts guide for fabrics and fits.
