Your Holiday Hoodie Drop: A Timeline From Now to Black Friday
By The Velocity Wear Team
Hoodie demand in the US climbs through fall and peaks in November and December. It's the best selling window of the year for most apparel brands. The brands that win it have product in hand, photographed and listed before Black Friday. That means making decisions much earlier than feels natural.
Why earlier matters
Every step takes longer in Q4. Suppliers are busier, carriers are slower, and you'll want time to shoot photos and build hype. Production takes 10 to 15 working days after artwork approval, then shipping to you. Add design, sampling, photography and pre-launch marketing, and the countdown starts in early fall.
A working timeline
Early to mid September: decide the drop
Pick one to three designs. Look at last year's sales if you have them. Decide colors and a rough quantity per design.
Late September: sample
Order a sample of the hoodie in your chosen weight and color. Check fit, feel and print placement. Adjust now, not after 100 are made.
Early October: approve artwork and order
Lock sizes based on past sales or a pre-order poll. Approve proofs. Production starts.
Late October to early November: stock arrives
Inspect the delivery, shoot product and lifestyle photos, write listings, and tease the drop to your email list and social followers.
Mid November: launch
Go live before Black Friday, and use Black Friday and Cyber Monday for promotions rather than your first reveal.
Early December: final call
Push last shipping dates for holiday delivery and consider a second, smaller restock if something sold out.
How much to order
Q4 tempts people to over-order. Base quantities on real data: past sales, email list size, pre-order interest. Our minimum is 20 per design with sizes mixed, and pricing improves at 50, 100 and 250. A restock mid-season is better than 200 hoodies in January.
Gift-friendly touches
- Branded packaging that looks good under a tree.
- A clear size guide, since gift buyers are guessing someone else's size.
- An exchange policy that runs past the holidays.
- Gift notes or gift cards for last-minute buyers.
If you're already late
If it's the end of October and you haven't started, don't panic, adjust. Pick one design in one or two colors that you're confident in. Skip the extra sampling if you've ordered the same hoodie before. Launch with pre-orders and a clear ship date in early December, and market it as a limited run. It won't catch Black Friday stock-in-hand, but it can still catch holiday gifting.
And write the date you should have started on next year's calendar now. Everyone says they'll remember. Almost nobody does.
Shipping cutoffs
Carriers publish holiday shipping deadlines each year. Put them on your site and in emails from late November. Clear cutoff dates convert hesitant gift buyers.
Customer service in December
Expect more questions about sizing, delivery and gift wrapping. Prepare answers in advance, update your FAQ, and reply quickly. A smooth December builds repeat customers for the new year.
