Cycling Club Casual Wear: Hoodies and Tees for Café Stops

By The Velocity Wear Team

Cycling clubs usually invest in technical jerseys and bib shorts from specialist suppliers. What they often miss is casual club wear: the hoodie for cold mornings before a ride, the tee for the café stop, the sweatshirt for the club dinner. It's cheaper, members love it, and it gets the club seen off the bike.

Technical kit vs casual wear

For riding, stick with specialist technical jerseys designed for cycling. We don't make those. For everything around riding, our hoodies, tees, crewnecks and caps are ideal.

What clubs order

  • Hoodies for pre-ride coffee and post-ride pubs.
  • Soft tees for café stops and summer events.
  • Crewnecks for club dinners and AGMs.
  • Caps for sunny rides and club photos.
  • Event tees for club sportives and time trials.

Design

Echo your jersey's colours and crest so casual wear feels part of the same kit. A minimal route map, a local climb's name, or the club's founding year are popular details.

Sponsors

Local bike shops and cafés often sponsor clubs. A small sponsor logo on the sleeve or back of casual wear is a nice thank-you that doesn't clutter the design.

Club sportives

If your club runs a sportive, event tees for riders and volunteers are a good income and promotion tool. Put the route and year on the back.

Pre-orders

Open a club shop window twice a year, perhaps spring and autumn. Collect orders and payment, then order in one batch. Our minimum is 20 per design with sizes mixed.

Mistakes to avoid

  1. 1Designs that don't match the jersey.
  2. 2Too many sponsor logos.
  3. 3Ordering speculative stock with club funds.
  4. 4Forgetting volunteers at events.

Quick checklist

  • Colours match the jersey?
  • Hoodie, tee, cap?
  • Sponsor placement agreed?
  • Pre-order window set?
  • Event tees for sportives?

Membership packs

Some clubs include a casual tee or cap in new membership fees. It's a warm welcome and gets new riders wearing the club's colours immediately. Budget the item into the fee and keep a stock of common sizes for new joiners through the season.

Café stop partnerships

Clubs often have a regular café stop. A co-branded tee with the café, sold at the café counter, helps both. Riders buy them as souvenirs of a favourite route, and the café gets its name on cyclists across the county. Agree the design and profit split with the café owner first.

Club dinners and award nights

End-of-season dinners are a good moment for something smarter: an embroidered crewneck or quarter zip with the club crest and the year. Award winners might get a special colour. These pieces are kept for years and worn to club events.

Youth sections

Clubs with youth and junior sections should include children's sizes in casual wear orders. Parents are often keen buyers too. Keep designs identical across ages so juniors feel part of the same club as the senior riders.

Keeping records for the kit secretary

Kit secretaries change. Save design files, size totals by order, supplier details and pricing in the club's shared drive. The next volunteer can reorder in minutes instead of starting from scratch.

Sizing riders

Riders are used to close-fitting jerseys, but casual wear should fit like normal clothing. Share a size chart in centimetres and remind members that casual tees and hoodies aren't cut like race kit, so they shouldn't size down out of habit.
