Cricket Club Shirts, Training Wear and Clubhouse Kit

By The Velocity Wear Team

Cricket shirts get close to nine hundred UK searches a month, peaking before the season starts in spring. Club cricket runs on volunteers, and the kit order often lands on one committee member who's never done it before. Here's a straightforward guide.

Whites

Traditional league cricket is played in whites or cream. Clubs usually add an embroidered badge on the left chest. Check your league's regulations on logo size and sponsor placement on whites, as some are strict.

Coloured T20 kit

T20 and midweek competitions often use coloured kit. Full-colour designs are usually sublimated onto lightweight polyester, which handles long hot afternoons. Names and numbers go on the back. Check competition rules for colour clashes and required numbering.

Training tops

Nets and training need breathable, comfortable shirts. A simple club-colour t-shirt or performance top with the badge on the chest does the job and stops people turning up in football kits.

Hoodies and layers

Anyone who's fielded in April knows a club hoodie or sweatshirt is essential. They also sell well to members and parents. See club hoodies.

Clubhouse polos

Committee members, bar volunteers and umpires look smart in club polos. They're also a popular members' item for away games and club dinners.

Juniors

Junior sections are the lifeblood of club cricket. Order junior sizes with room to grow and collect sizes via parents. Many clubs include a training shirt in junior membership fees.

Sponsors

Local businesses sponsor club kit and scoreboards. Check league and ECB-affiliated competition rules on sponsor placement. For junior kit, avoid sponsors that aren't appropriate for children.

Running the order

Use an online form for sizes, names and payment. Set a deadline a month or more before the season. Our minimum is 20 per design with sizes mixed, including junior sizes. Keep your badge files and kit spec in the club's shared folder for next year's volunteer.

Selling kit to members

Many clubs run a members' kit shop once a year: training shirt, hoodie, polo and cap. Take pre-orders over a few weeks in winter, order once, and hand out kit at the pre-season nets. It raises a bit of money and means everyone looks like one club from the first match.

Tours and festivals

Club tours and cricket festivals deserve a tour shirt or polo with the destination and year. Players love them, and they're often the most-worn item a club ever orders.

Umpires and scorers

Don't forget the volunteers. A club polo or fleece for your umpires and scorers is a nice thank-you, and it makes them easy to identify at away grounds.

Women's and girls' cricket

Women's and girls' sections are growing quickly. Offer fitted cuts and a full size range in training wear and stash so every player feels properly kitted out, not handed a men's large.

Colours that suit cricket

Club colours usually appear as trim on whites and as main colours on training kit and hoodies. Navy, bottle green and maroon are traditional and hide grass stains.

Colts and junior festivals

Junior cricket festivals and colts tours are great occasions for a special training shirt or tee with the festival name and year. Parents buy them as keepsakes, and young players love matching kit when playing away from home.
